NCPS Inclement Weather Update
Good Evening Bulldog Families! I hope everyone is inside and staying dry this evening. My name is Courtney Land. It was a tremendous pleasure to be named the new Principal of Coopers Elementary at last night’s board meeting. It is an honor to be able to “come home” and serve in the community that I live in. A letter was sent home with your child in their bookbag today introducing myself to you. If you would like to meet, I will be available this Thursday (January 11th) from 2pm-4pm for a “meet and greet”. I will also be available at our next PTO meeting which is scheduled for Tuesday, February 6th starting at 5:30pm. We will have a meet and greet session from 5:30-6:00pm on February 6th, followed by the PTO meeting starting at 6pm. I look forward to a wonderful second semester and continuing the amazing things that are being implemented at Coopers. Take care and have a great evening.

The most recent federal data show that in the 2020-21 school year, at least 14.7 million students nationwide were chronically absent. This means that chronic absence has almost doubled from the more than 8 million students, pre-Covid-19, who were missing so many days of school that they were academically at risk. Chronic absence — missing 10 percent or more of school days due to absence for any reason—excused, unexcused absences, and suspensions—can translate into students having difficulty learning to read by the third grade, achieving in middle school, and graduating from high school. NC Law Senate Bill 49 / SL 2023-106 states that from 01/01/24, to include a child in photos/videos/recordings, parents/guardians must Opt-In. This consent allows for yearbook inclusion and school-related social media presence. Non-opted-in students won't feature in new media by the school/district. Find the form in Rooms, under Materials -> "Mandatory" -> "updated model release form".

Good Afternoon Coopers Families! Next week is our final week of school for 2023. We want to celebrate the holidays with special theme days. Monday, we would love students to wear red or green. On Tuesday, we want everyone to shine and wear a bright shirt, sweater, or light-up accessories. Wednesday is the day to wear holiday socks and Thursday is tacky sweater or shirt day! Wednesday and Thursday are early release days so students will be dismissed at 1:00. Our last day is Thursday. Finally, our book fair was very successful! Thanks for your support and the hard work of all our volunteers! Have a great week everyone!!
