Items will be delivered the week of December 18th. due to the short turnaround time, order forms and money are due by 10am on Wednesday, 12/13. No late orders will be accepted. ‘Book Blast’ Earns Students at BENVENUE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL New Books
BENVENUE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL is about to embark on a school-wide book drive unlike any other! Starting on 12/5/2023, the school will launch their Books Are Fun Book Blast. This literacy initiative helps our students build their home libraries while also helping the school to get more books and school supplies. No matter what, this program ensures all the students at the school will take home at least one new, fun, age-appropriate book for their home libraries. However, with the help of the community, friends, and family, students can earn up to 10 books!
How does this all work? Students send out invitations to friends and family members to help them reach their goal of taking home all 10 books on their grade-level list. So, if you receive an invitation from a student you know, please click on the link in the invitation and help that child by contributing on their personal contribution page. 100% of the contributions they receive first go towards the books on their book list and then help other students needing books too. Any remaining contributions after every student earns all 10 books will go toward more books for the school and classroom supplies. Let’s help BENVENUE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL reach their goal of every student taking home all 10 books!

Ms. Land, Mrs. Smith, and Ms. Westlund's student enjoyed practicing their bowling skills today at the Rocky Mount Bowling Alley. A fun time was had by all.
Illness and when to stay home
We realize there are times when it is in the best interest to keep students home from school due to illness. Our goal is to provide a healthy environment for all students. Please contact your school nurse or child's doctor if you are unsure if you should keep him/her home. Following are some basic guidelines.
Your child should remain home if:
Temperature greater than 100.4 F; may return to school when fever free for 24 hours without fever reducing medication
Antibiotics are prescribed; may return after taking the antibiotic for a minimum of 24 hours and fever free for 24 hours without fever reducing medication
Vomiting/Diarrhea; may return when 24 hours have passed since last episode of vomiting/diarrhea without medication
Cough that is persistent and interferes with normal activity
Distracting pain from earache, headache, sore throat or recent injury

The Bobcat Mart will be open on Friday for students to shop before school.
Next Friday, 12/8 is the PBIS Pajama Day fundraiser. Students can bring $2 and wear their pjs all day while at school. Funds will go towards our PBIS celebrations. Please make sure pajamas are school appropriate. Look for the flyer in your child's Thursday folder. Money is due by Thursday, 12/7. Thank you in advance for supporting PBIS.
We are trying to close out our school picture sale with Strawbridge. If you have not done so already, please return payments and/or returned any unpurchased pictures. The school is responsible for the packages that were sent home. You may still purchase them online at www.strawbridge.net. The online code is in your child's picture package.
Our World's Finest Chocolate reward party is next Friday, 12/8. We still have some uncollected chocolate money. These payments need to be sent in asap. Chocolate bars can still be purchased in the office. Thank you for your continued support.

Excused Absences
When a student must miss school, a written excuse signed by a parent or guardian must be presented to the student’s teacher on the day the student returns after an absence. Absences due to extended illnesses may also require a statement from a health care practitioner. An absence may be excused for any of the following reasons:
1. personal illness or injury that makes the student physically unable to attend school;
2. isolation ordered by the local health officer or the State Board of Health or isolation or quarantine that is a required state or local control measure;
3. death in the immediate family;
4. medical or dental appointment;
5. attendance at the proceedings of a court or administrative tribunal if the student is party to the action or under subpoena as a witness ;
6. observance of an event required or suggested by the religion of the student or the student’s parent or legal guardian with written approval from the principal. Excused absences for religious observance must not exceed five days each academic year;
7. participation in a valid educational opportunity, such as service as a legislative or Governor’s page, with prior approval from the principal;
8. pregnancy and related conditions or parenting, when medically necessary;
9. a minimum of two days each academic year for visitation with the student’s parent or legal guardian if the student is not identified as at risk of academic failure because of unexcused absences and the student’s parent or legal guardian (a) is an active or inactive duty member of the uniformed services as defined by policy 4050, Children of Military Families, and (b) has been called to duty for, is on leave from, or has immediately returned from deployment to a combat zone or combat support posting; or
10. any other reason as approved by the board in a board resolution.
Any absence not meeting the requirements of an excused absence will be an unexcused absence.
Tuesday, November 28 is Fall makeup pictures for students that were absent or new to the school. You do not need to send any money. Proofs will be sent home.

Fall pictures and/or payments were due today. If you did not return with your child today, please return them on Monday, 11/27. You may also pay online at www.strawbridge.net. You will need to use the code that was included in the picture package. Please keep in mind that the school is responsible for picture package so all unpurchased pictures must to be returned.
Fall picture make-ups are Tuesday, 11/28. This is for students who were absent or new to our school since October 17.
School is closed Wednesday - Friday for the Thanksgiving holidays. School will resume on Monday, 11/27. We hope that everyone has a wonderful Thanksgiving!
'Tis the Season for Giving
The Benvenue PTO is sponsoring their annual Giving Tree. The giving Tree assists students and their siblings with gifts for the holidays. If you are interested in sponsoring a student, please stop by the office, take a tag ,complete the Donor form in the notebook. We ask that you spend a minimum of $100 and each child receives at least 5 gifts. Gifts should be unwrapped and returned to the school by December 15th with the tag attached.
